Skincare for winter
Though I’m not the biggest fan of heavy, thick moisturizers (I gave away my Glossier “rich” moisturizer to my sister), I can admit that winter skin needs some extra lovin’ in the cold, dry months. Here are my (tried and true!) recommendations, in no particular order.
Supergoop Daily Moisturizer SPF 40
This SPF moisturizer is on the heavier side, and leaves a dewy shine, which is too much to bear in summer but is actually something I appreciate in winter. I’ll wear this when I plan to actually leave the house. So… not much these days. But still, everyone needs an SPF they can count on!
Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil
I treasure looking at this little bottle of blue oil in my medicine cabinet and use it sparingly. It’s got a subtle, heady scent, and a little goes a long way – I never use more than 4 drops for full face and neck coverage. Though I do use this all year, it’s especially useful in winter, and doesn’t feel too heavy or oily.
I know I said I don’t like heavy product, but this stuff goes on like softened butter. It feels like it’s spackling every crack in your face. Or as I texted my sister a year ago: “it makes your face feel like you just inherited a fortune from an aunt you never met.” You gotta shmear it to believe it.
Goes without saying. My lips can’t handle any season without this baby. I finally wised up and have one in my nightstand, one at my desk, and one in my purse.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
For nights when you need a little extra pump of plump. I swipe this on, let it dry, and then follow with a light moisturizer. Warning, it does pill under makeup, so I mostly use it at night if I’m not using another serum. It’s so good I even got my husband using it.
Speaking of my husband, I bought this moisturizer for him, but sometimes I steal some! It’s just too good! I use it when I’m just out of the shower and feeling dehydrated, or when I’m not in the mood for anything fancy. It’s got no scent and it’s the perfect Goldilocks texture: not too thick, not too thin.
This is a rarity, but sometimes after a shower I will scoop a dollop of this, warm it up in my hands a bit, (it’s basically solid in the jar), swipe it onto the skin around my collarbone and neck, (upward motions, people!) and then my elbows and heels.
Currently Coveting: Hey Dewy humidifier
I’ve ordered this backordered beauty for my bedside table and am patiently awaiting its arrival. Can’t wait to never again wake up gasping for air in the middle of the night as the heating vent blows directly onto my face…
Still Searching: thick hand cream that’s not super fragrant! I purchased the Glossier hand cream, but there’s not much bang for the buck. The effect is more about the lovely fragrance than the moisturizing power, and it’s probably better for a purse than a nightstand.
